A Little Bit About Krysia
I believe that life is a journey; one in which it is never too late chose a new route and explore a novel destination. This sentiment allows me a sense freedom and provides an element of control that is both comforting and empowering.
Why I Became a Psychologist
Throughout life I have sought fulfillment in everyday events, and have been fortunate in that my journey has offered diverse and fascinating experiences and opportunities, as well as a variety of beneficial and rewarding careers.
Having worked in multiple industries I found myself searching for purpose, wanting to give more to receive more – with an intense desire to do something enriching and meaningful as a career. Although exciting and fruitful, my previous career choices did not tap into my need to deeply connect with people and to make a difference; I wanted to use my inherent strengths to assist in healing and helping others. This was the driving force that (well over a decade after achieving my undergraduate degree) motivated my return to completing my studies and training as a psychologist.
My Interests and Focus Areas
My areas of interest, among others include:
- Psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders
- Trauma (physical, emotional, acute, chronic, and complex)
- Relational and attachment difficulties
- Emotional dysregulation
- Loss and bereavement
- Adjustment to life changing circumstance
- Strength focused interventions
Previous Experience
I completed my internship and community service at Sterkfontein Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwaneth Academic Hospital respectively. These environments offered exposure to a diverse population with wide ranging psychiatric and psychosocial presentations allowing for a training that was extensive, comprehensive and irreplaceable.
In addition to my interest in therapeutic and clinical practice, I have enjoyed engaging in research and academic writing with works published on interventions aimed at enhancing wellbeing and hope among vulnerable adolescents, and trauma based therapeutic intervention.
